Nature and climate of the province are droughty and sharply continental. The major part of the province is deserts and semideserts. Length of highways with a firm covering is 3.9 thousand km, railway of 469.3 km. Administrative centre is Navoi - large industrial city where various products of a number of the enterprises is processed. There are 2 cities of provincial subordination – Navoi and Zarafshan, 8 districts, out of which 4 – cotton sowing, 4 – astrakhan growing. Navoi province possesses the large economic potential. The basis of industrial sector of the province are such large enterprises as Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine, JSC "Navoiazot", the JV "Electrochemical factory", JSC “Qyzylqumcement” and others. The specific feature of these enterprises is that they work mainly on local raw material, reserves of which are available in a plenty in the province, as well as on the basis of modern technologies. The basic traditional industries of the province are nonferrous metallurgy, chemical and light industries, and production of building materials. The industrial enterprises of the province produce more than 50 important products and the main of them are ammoniac saltpeter, nitric acid, polyacrylnitril fiber, chemical means of protection of plants, cement, clinker, cotton-fiber, hosieries, knitted products, jewels, food stuffs. Navoi province is located in the central part of the country, it borders in the West with the Republic of Qoraqalpoghiston, in the North and in the East - with Kazakhstan and Jizzakh province, in the South - with Bukhoro, Samarqand and Qashqadaryo provinces. It covers an area of 111 thousand sq km or 24.8% of total territory of the country. Its population is 767 thousand people.
