The province is located in the South-East part of Uzbekistan. In the North and North-West it borders with Kyrgyzstan and Tashkent province, and in the West with Tajikistan. The number of permanent population of the province as of 1 January, 2006, is 2103 thousand people, its area makes 7.44 thousand sq km or 1.7 % of the total area of the county. There are 11 administrative districts and 6 towns. The administrative centre is the city of Namangan.
In structure of economy of the province, such sectors as agriculture, industry and construction have prevailing development.
The basic directions in agricultural production are cultivation of raw cotton, grain crops, fruits and vegetables, as well as cattle-breeding production.
The estimation of parameters of production, processing, internal consumption and export of fresh fruits and vegetables products thereof allowed to reveal, that on available capacities of the operating enterprises on processing of products of agriculture, insufficient loading of capacities and necessity of creation of the modern small industrial enterprises is observed in Pap, Chust, Kosonsoy, Chortoq, Turaqurghon and Yangiqurghon districts of the province.
In industrial production, textile, food, processing, machine-building and production of building materials prevail.
There is a huge potential in sphere of textile and light industries. So, for starting production of competitive export-oriented goods, it is necessary to modernize and re-equip such enterprises as JSC “Namangantextil", JSC «Uichi yigiruv-tuquv», JSC "Mushtariy".
The total length of railways is 144.6 km, automobile roads – 3.1 thousand km. The Namangan province is connected with city of Toshkent through pass Qamchiq.
Program of attraction of foreign investments and credits in the provinces of Farghona valley for the period of 2007-2008 approved in February, 2007 envisages realization of 10 projects in Namangan province totaling to USD 16.4 million in sphere of textile, silk, meat, dairy, processing of fruit and vegetable products, poultry farming and production of construction materials.
