Khorazm province  Khorazm province is located in NorthWestern part of Uzbekistan in the lower banks of the Amu-Darya River. In the NorthEast it borders with the Republic of Karakalpakstan and in the SouthWest borders with Turkmenistan. Province covers an area of 6.1 thousand sq. km. The population of province, as of 01.01.2006ã. 1454,8 thousand.
The transport infrastructure of Khorazm province is developed enough. The total length automobile with a hard covering makes roads 2,3 thousand in km. Extent of railways - more than 138 km. In territory of province the airport of the international class in Urganch, with throughput of 250-300 passengers per hour and an opportunity to accept all types of air liners functions. The network railway and automobile ways of the province is connected with the basic communications which provide an opportunity of transportation of export-import cargoes in following directions: - through railway station "Beineu" (border of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan) to Kazakhstan, Russia and further to the Europe; - through Kazakh port "Aktau" (Caspian sea) to Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia; - through territories of Turkmenistan railway and motor transport to Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan. The economy of province is based on cotton and the food-processing industry. There are numerous cotton cleaning factories, textile, silk-spinning factories, etc. Mechanical engineering and textile industries continue to develop. In the province favorable climatic conditions for cultivation of a clap, a cocoon (silkworm), wheat, vegetables and fruit (dried apricots, apples, peaches, a fig). Cultivation of cereals, especially rice, has considerably increased last years. There are stocks of sand for silicate products, brick raw material and mineral waters. Khiva - the big center of the international tourism. In 1997 the city of Khiva has celebrated 2500-th anniversary. Greater efforts are enclosed for the further development of tourism in Khiva surrounding district. Within the Program of development of production, expansion of an export potential and creation of additional workplaces by attraction of investments into the Khorazm province for the period up to 2009ã. Realization of 64 projects for a total sum US $ 37.9 million and 6.9 billion Soums in sphere of textile, food, meat and milk industries, productions of building materials and rendering of tourist services is planned.
