Andizhon province

Andizhon province is situated in the North East of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In the North and South-East, the province borders with Kyrgyzstan, in the North-West - with Namangan province, in the South-West - with Farghona province.

The total area of the province makes 4.3 thousand square km, that comprises around 1% of the whole territory of Uzbekistan. The number of permanent population of the province as of 1 January, 2006 is 2376.3 thousand people.

Key industries of the economy of the province are automotive, machine building, light industry, food, electrical energy, chemical and petrochemical industries, metalworking, production of building materials.

The enterprises of the province produce motor cars, agricultural machinery and equipment, cable products, products of construction and food industries, products from polyethylene and polypropylene, cotton yarn, knitted fabric, garments, footwear, carpets and rugs.

Special attention is attached to ensuring deep processing of the important agricultural resources – cotton, silk, kenaf, fruit and vegetable products and production of wine growing, as well as to development of adjacent productions of light industry.

In production of agricultural and food products, such enterprises with foreign investments as Uzbek-Italian Joint Venture "FAM" (pasta), Uzbek-British-Russian Joint Venture as "ÌÀÑÊ" (canned fruits and vegetables, a tomato paste), Uzbek -Bulgarian Joint Venture "Navigul" (wine and vodka products) play important role.

Potential investment opportunities are determined by the presence of a large-scale production of motor cars by the UzDaewoo-Auto plant in the town of Asaka. This allows to develop and intensify production of a broad spectrum of components for cars.

The total length of railways in the province is 200km, highways – 6.2 thousand km. There are regular flights to/from other cities within Uzbekistan.

The Program of attraction of foreign investments and loans in the provinces of Farghona valley for the period 2007-2008 envisages implementation of 15 projects in the Andizhon province totaling to US $ 48.1 million in sphere of textile, silk, meat and dairy industries, processing of fruits and vegetables, poultry farming and production of building materials.
